On the cover of...Vue Weekly!

It's not every day you get to have your face on the cover of a major metro weekly, but there I am! I'm excited and flattered that Vue Weekly in Edmonton decided to dedicate the cover of its latest issue (Sept 30/10) to the 10th anniversary of BPM on CJSR FM 88.5, and ran this amazing Eden Munro photo! The profile inside is an excellent piece by Bryan Birtles - you can read it HERE. Thank you, Vue, for the honour, and remember - this Saturday (Oct 2) is the big day, starting at 6 pm MST on CJSR FM 88.5 (CJSR.com) with a classic anthems show, then the party at Level 2 (have a look at the new website HERE)...

WTF, kids say the darndest things. And me, as well.

Imagine my surprise when I woke up this morning and flipped open the local paper (The Edmonton Journal) and started to read an article about how swearing seems to be much more apparent among kids than ever before. I don't know, this didn't seem like news to me - after all, when I was a kiddo, the minute my friends and I could drop the f-bomb among ourselves without parents listening in, we dropped without prejudice.

Then I saw my name. Yes, a tweet I wrote on Sunday night on my account (BPMDavidStone) about Kanye West's performance on the MTV Video Music Awards was quoted. However, the Journal cut off the rest of the article right around the point where I said, "eat a dick." Apparently the fact that the Journal actually printed the words "eat a dick" threw them off and they just decided to stop right there.

In any case, it appears that the article appeared in most PostMedia papers today, including the Vancouver Sun, which was not afraid to run the words "eat a dick" and printed the entire piece, which you can read right here. The Montreal Gazette, surprisingly, cut the article before they could even get to my bon mot. That's okay, Montreal, you're still a lovely city, I still love you.

And please, don't let your kids swear. Or at least teach them how to swear properly. When they're old enough. It's the responsible thing to do.

FuturePast mix

Many years ago, at least seven or eight, I made this mix as a promo, and it became pretty popular locally in Edmonton, even though I only made 50 copies. To this day, people tell me it's one of their favourites that I had ever done. However, I had thought it was lost in my own life, until I uncovered a copy among a bunch of CDs in my office. So, I thought maybe some of you out there might enjoy hearing it too. This was done in one take, the old fashioned way - two Technics 1200 MK2 turntables and a Vestax mixer - and it's steeped in the progressive sounds of the early 2000s. Warts and all, I am still pretty proud of this one, and I hope you download it and enjoy!

Formula 2 download

A few weeks back, I released my latest mix disc Formula2 with a party at Level 2 in Edmonton. It's since come up that a number of the discs were defective, and I feel terrible for anyone out there who got a bum copy. It's an embarrassment to myself and the club, and I can't apologize enough for the disappointment. So I want to make it up to all of you, as well give many of you an opportunity to hear the mix. Below you'll find the link to download an MP3 of Formula2 for your listening pleasure. It will be up only for a limited time, so grab it while you can.
